Hi, my name is

Micah Snell

I'm a software engineer based in Austin, Texas. I like to solve problems and make life better.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

Texas State University, San Marcos, TX
Computer Engineering concentration
Minors in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics

GPA: 3.82

August 2018 - May 2021

Experience

System Software Engineering Associate

Applied Research Laboratories, Austin, TX
  • Built and maintained various software components across several projects in an agile development team.
  • Wrote high performance, object-oriented, multithreaded C++ code in a distributed Linux environment.
  • Identified and eliminated bugs in new and legacy systems through continuous validation of system functionality.
  • Created automated testing routines to minimize human-in-the-loop testing, and increase testing cadence.
  • Collaborated with other engineers to design and implement developer tools for containerization technologies.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
June 2021 - Present

Supplemental Instructor

Texas State University, San Marcos, TX
  • Led study sessions that reinforced CS fundamentals for students in statistically difficult CS courses.
  • Developed programming problems that highlighted base concepts of C++ & OOP to assist with student mastery.
  • Fostered a collaborative problem-solving environment through pair/mob programming, and code sharing.
August 2020 - May 2021

Projects

Capstone Design Project: Dual-Use Wide-band Microphone Array System

Sponsored by NASA & The Texas Space Grant Consortium
  • Designed a device that provides simultaneous voice communication and ultrasonic sound detection.
  • Implemented a closed loop control system that processes ultrasonic inputs and generates warnings.
  • Collaborated daily with teammates on system design, unit testing, and technical documentation.
  • Worked closely with NASA, TSGC, and Texas State to define and satisfy project requirements.
  • Placed 2nd in poster presentation, and 5th overall at the Spring 2021 TSGC Design Challenge Showcase.
  • Awarded Best Project, Faculty Choice at the Spring 2021 Texas State University Senior Design Day.

You can watch our presentations at the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 TSGC Design Challenge Showcase.
You can also see a project overview, poster, and Senior Design Day presentation on our project web-page.

Interests

When I'm not at working on a project, I enjoy playing guitar, trying new recipes, and traveling! I am an avid hiker and camper, and recently hiked to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite. My travel bucket list includes visits to all 62 National Parks!
